January is National Soup Month!

January is declared as the “unofficial” national soup month. With cold temperatures and chilly days, it’s the perfect time to celebrate and reminisce with us with a warm bowl of our healthy, hearty soup or chili. It’s one of America’s favorite comfort foods through the long, cold days of winter which makes January one of the best months to celebrate national soup month.

However, there are so many reasons to eat soup all year long. Just as soup nourishes the body, Women’s Bean Project has been nourishing women’s lives for almost 30 years by helping a woman thrive through our gourmet food manufacturing businesses. It’s more than a warm bowl of 10 Bean Soup.  It’s about changes, hope and life-long transformations for thousands of women struggling to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment.

Each product, created by the tireless hands of a woman in the Bean Project, is made with the highest quality ingredients and the highest quality of care. Each woman works in a transitional job to receive immediate income and support services to overcome barriers to employment. She learns the job readiness, interpersonal and life skills needed to create a brighter future for herself, her family, our communities and the economy.

When you eat a bowl of Women’s Bean Project’s soup or chili, you’re experiencing a breath of hope from the woman who, against all odds, built stepping stones to self-sufficiency and turned her life around.

Fun tidbits and facts about soup:

  • Americans sip over 10 BILLION bowls of soup every single year.
  • Every year, 99% of all American homes buy soup – turning it into a $5 billion business.
  • The earliest evidence of our ancestors eating soup was about 6000 BC. And guess what kind of soup it was? Hippopotamus!
  • Who eats more soup?  Men or women? Well, for a typical lunch, women seem to be more than twice as likely to eat soup as men. Statistics say, 9.6% vs. 4.0%.
