Important Information:
Beans, peas, and lentils are natural agricultural products. Despite use of modern agricultural equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign material. Sort and rinse before cooking.

Slow Cooker Instructions for 10 Bean Soup:

  1. Remove spice packet. Rinse and drain beans.
  2. Place beans into slow cooker and add 4 cups of water or broth until beans are well covered.
  3. Place spice packet, garlic and any other fresh vegetables of your choosing into the slow cooker with the beans. Add water or broth until ingredients are covered, about 2-4 cups. Do not add the can of tomatoes yet.
  4. Place lid onto slow cooker and turn to high setting. Let cook for 6-8 hours or until beans are tender.
  5. When beans are soft, add canned tomatoes and continue to cook for an additional 10-15 minutes or until temperature is at your preference. If adding a meat, cook in a skillet and add with tomatoes.

You may need to check on the soup while it’s cooking to make sure there is still enough water. If water is low and not covering the beans, add a little and continue to cook.

I’ve been buying Women’s Bean Project mixes from the Greater Good site for years – 10 bean & lentil soups, and chili. I love the cause and the products!! Today I made a big pot of 10 Bean Soup and, as always, it was easy and so very delicious.

  2. Suzanne

Just made this soup and everyone LOVED it! We used the crock pot recipe and added a little onion and ham. It was delicious and so easy. But most importantly we love supporting the Women!

    • Women’s Bean Project

Hi Suzanne! We are so happy to hear you and those you shared it with loved our soup. What a great idea to add onion and ham to it! Thanks for your support of our mission and products!

  3. Shawna P

This is a no brainer weeknight soup. I pop this in the crockpot on low in the morning, beans are perfectly done for an early dinner. If you have some ham laying around it’s a nice heart addition.

    • Women’s Bean Project

Hi Shawna! We love that you find our soup convenient to make! Thank you for your feedback! 🙂

This is the best bean soup I have ever had! I love bean soup.
My family loved it as well. It was a gift from a friend.
I used canned tomatoes just as directed on the label and low salt veggie broth. I took some to an elderly neighbor. She called me the next day and said..the soup was great and she wanted more….:)

    So ordered more…on-line.

    • Women’s Bean Project

Hi Susan! We are so happy to hear this feedback! We also love that you were able to share it with your family and neighbors. What a great way to share the love! Thank you for your support. We hope you continue to enjoy our products!

  5. Lynne

I bought this soup at a Christmas market at a local church before Christmas. I made it the other day & was disappointed that the tomato flavor overpowered the taste. Wish I had used only a 1 lb can of crushed tomatoes instead of the 28 oz can. Otherwise I enjoyed the soup, adding Andouille sausage.

    • Women’s Bean Project

      Hi Lynne,

Thank you so much for your feedback on our 10 Bean Soup. We are sorry you felt the soup was overpowering with tomato flavor by adding a 28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes. Even though the recipe calls for that, we encourage our customers to try adding their own ingredient creations the next time they make our soup. We hope you try other Women’s Bean Project products and continue to provide us feedback! Thank you so much for your support. Happy New Year!

  6. Ruth Clayton

I am a soup fanatic in the winter. I made this soup adding diced ham, frozen mixed vegetables and macaroni. I used vegetable broth for the base. This soup is amazing. I will be purchasing more and also some of the cookie mixes. I will also be giving your soup mixes for Christmas presents this year.

    • Women’s Bean Project

Hi Stephanie! We love hearing from customers like you and all of the ways they prepare our products. Your additions of the diced ham, mixed veggies and macaroni sound fabulous. We appreciate your support and sharing our products and mission with your friends and family and we look forward to hearing more of your culinary creations soon!

The 10 Bean Soup is the favorite pick of the entire family. We have added in many different meats depending on what we have – ham, beef, beef and chorizo mixture, sausage. Also usually green chile as that is pretty much a staple in our house.

    • Women’s Bean Project

      Hi Karen!

Wow, all of those added meats sound amazing in our 10 Bean Soup. It is great to hear from our customers and how they add their own ingredients. Make sure you rate our products and share with your friends! We also love any photos of your creations that we can share on our website and through our social marketing efforts. Thanks so much for sharing!

That’s wonderful to hear Darra! We appreciate your business and support over the years. We have added several new products this year, such as popcorn, Biscuits & Jam and Instant Rice & Bean Bowls. Give them a try and see what you think!

I have given this soup as Christmas gifts for years and everyone absolutely loves it and the cause! Buying more for this season. 🙂

Wow Melissa what a great suggestion! Thanks for sharing. We’ll try this method out!

Here is my variation on this soup to avoid salt:
I marinated a large zucchini and summer squash for 72 hours in equal parts apple cider vinegar and water (enough to cover top of veggies). I sliced the squash vertically into ribbons using a mandolin, but this works the same if you slice the squash horizontally into disks. Add the squash with the canned tomato and Voila! It tasted amazing. Very similar flavor to Olive Garden’s Minestrone soup.

One of my students gave this soup mix to me as a gift and so I tried it. Delicious! I had never heard of “Women Bean Project” before, but my husband really loved it and so I had to find out where to purchase some more. Since that time I have fallen in love with their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and many other products. I am a big fan and love supporting this group!

Hi Patricia! YEAH 🙂 Ten Thousand Villages is a great partners of ours and are excited you stopped in to pick up Toni’s 10 Bean Soup. Your additions to the soup sound so delicious 🙂 We will make sure to share your story with the women in our program as they love hearing when customers mention they had “their” product. Thank you for you support and stay tuned for new product packaging and new products coming very soon!

  16. Patricia Sickler

Purchased this soup at Ten Thousand Villages and it’s delicious. I made it the other day, used a smoked ham hock to give it a bit more oomph. It was so good and made enough for two dinners with salad and crusty rolls and two lunches. I will definitely buy this again and will try other soups. I also loved the fact that the name of the woman that packed the soup is on the tag so thanks to Crystal. You now have another happy and satisfied customer. Good luck to your wonderful organization.

  17. WBPadmin

We can’t thank you enough Paula for the great feedback and amazing blog post you did for us! We always share customer testimonials with our women and this is no exception. We will be sharing this with Rebbie as it will bring her encouragement as she is currently in the job search and interview process stage of our program. Thank you again for your support and sharing what our organization is doing to your online community. Glad you enjoyed the soup! We think it’s yummy too!

Delicious! Like all the other soups we have tried form the Women’s Bean Project the seasoning is great, the soup comes together very easily, and is a hit with my family.

  21. WBPadmin

So glad you liked the soup Jason! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  22. Jason W

Very good soup. I went half chicken broth and half water vs. all water and added 1lb of diced ham. Turned out to be the best bean soup I’ve had. Thank you!

  23. Sandy (verified owner)

Wonderful!!! Served this soup for a pot luck event and got rave review. Had 10 guests and several ask me for the link to order. Keep up this VERY IMPORTANT work.

  24. JIll clatterbaugh

I have made other 10-15 bean soup packages and NONE of them compare to this recipe. This by far hands down is the BEST. The seasoning that is provided brings it all together and made the house smell so good. I will be buying this again for myself and as for gifts. We are soup snobs so for us to like this says a lot! Anxious to try many of the other soups! Keep up the good work ladies and I wish you all the best!! Jill 🙂

  25. Melinda Lee

Super good, delicious soup! I added two undrained cans of chopped tomato’s, sautéed a chopped onion for just a couple of minutes in a little olive oil and added an entire package of chopped celery with the provided seasoning packet during the last 30-40 minutes and it was wonderful! I highly recommend this soup!
